REDDITCH has been named and shamed after taking its place in TV Licensing's annual West Midlands League of Shame, after more than 29,500 evaders throughout the region were caught without a licence in 2003.
The league exposes towns and cities where TV Licensing has successfully caught high numbers of evaders. During the last 12 months, more than 360 licence dodgers were caught in the town.
Other areas names and shamed were Worcester, Kidderminster and Stourbridge.
TV Licensing's operation to catch evaders is driven by its database of more than 28 million addresses, which records whether a property in the UK is licensed or unlicensed.
This means enquiry officers only visit properties where there is no record of a TV licence. Officers also have access to detection equipment, including detector vans and handheld scanners.
Those who are caught risk a court appearance, a fine of up to £1,000 and court costs.
