A SMALLWOOD woman will be walking 85 miles to raise funds for a Redditch horse rescue centre.

Helen Batson, of Marsden Road, hopes to trot up a staggering £30,000 by walking from Morton Morell to Bath across the old Fosse Way in six days.

The walk, called 'Hoss on the Fosse', will take place in May and raise money for The Furlongs, on Gorcott Hill.

The horse rescue centre provides care, shelter and medical attention for sick, aged, unwanted or abused horses and ponies.

Horse lover Mrs Batson and her colleague, Rebecca Thomas, hope to raise enough money to be able to buy grazing land and stabling.

Mrs Batson said: "We need 3,000 groups or individuals to pledge a minimum sum of £10.

"People from the community are welcome to join us and offer support by walking a few miles with us."

Anyone who would like to support Mrs Batson can call on 07808 763750.
