A BADMINTON star from Bromsgrove School has won the Lancashire Senior Open.
Kelly Mead (pictured), aged 17, won eight matches to claim her first senior title at the event in Accrington on Saturday, February 21.
Born in Warrington, Kelly joined the Worcester Road school last September as a boarder to be closer to coach Dave Eddy, a former Commonwealth gold medalist, based at Birmingham University.
Kelly, who lives in Scotland, said: "It was a very close competition and I was determined to get through the first round and then my playing just got better and better as the tournament went on."
She is currently ranked in the top four in Scotland and will compete at the U21s Scottish Nationals on March 6 and 7.
