LISTEN very carfefully, I shall say this only once. The Rowney Green Players' first production at the Palace Theatre was a resounding success.

A packed audience enjoyed a hilarious couple of hours in their company, helped of course by Jeremy Lloyd and David Croft's fantastic script.

But the comic timing was spot-on, the acting brilliant, and as someone who remembers the original TV series, the casting excellent.

It is difficult to pick out particular stars because they were all really good, but Andrew Dobin was a wonderful Rene, and Estelle Shutkever's Edith with her off-key cabaret was a joy!

Joy Rodgers as Michelle and Naomi Huges as Mimi were good and Lt Gruber (Clive Buggins) was a hoot.

Some of the biggest laughs were reserved for Simon Baker, an astonishingly good Herr Flick and his sidekick/love interest Helga, ( Victoria Vollans) with a very adept striptease!

And a special mention for Officer Crabtree, who played an Englishman trying to sound French with a straight face .

Rowney Green Players' next production, yet to be announced, will be in November back at their usual venue of the Peace Hall in Rowney Green. Let's hope it's not too long before they grace the Palace again.
