n HAVING been in hospital during the recent floods I'm getting up to date with a backlog of copies of the Evening News.
The barrier appears to me to have only been a partial success. Hylton Road had to be closed, Croft Road and Newport Street threatened.
I've mentioned before that Hylton Road has always initially flooded through its drainage system, and the barriers would cause problems elsewhere. Closing Croft Road would cause more problems than closing Hylton Road.
At the bottom of Droitwich Road there is an overflow direct into the River Severn. For many years, the Severn at Barbourne Road surcharged and non-return values were fitted to some of the properties.
A overflow pipe could be constructed at the top end of Hylton Road which might stop Hylton Road from flooding through its drainage system.
