RUBERY residents are being warned to be on their guard after a spate of burglaries in the area.

In the past two weeks there have been thefts in Callowbrook Lane, Beacon Hill, and School Road.

One man who did not wish to be named, had his house on Beacon Hill broken into the Friday before last and credit cards, jewellery and cash stolen.

A Rubery woman was left broken hearted after thieves stole a ring and jewellery box of sentimental value.

Helen Turland, of Callowbrook Lane, said: "My nan gave me the jewellery box and it has an engraving on it saying 'To Helen with love on your 21st birthday, love nan'."

"The jewellery box meant so much to me," added Helen who also lost her nan's 70-year-old engagement ring in the raid.

The thieves are believed to have broken into the house at some point in the afternoon, and may have attempted to break into other houses in Callowbrook Lane first.
