A QUICK-thinking six-year-old girl, who saved her younger brother from drowning in a swimming pool, is to receive a special award.

Daisy Gamble will be presented with a letter of commendation from the chief medical officer of St John Ambulance during a school assembly tomorrow morning.

The Finstall First School pupil is the first person in the Worcestershire area in as many years to receive the award.

Daisy saved the life of her three-and-a-half-year old brother George during a family holiday on the tropical island of Bermuda.

The family, who lives in South Road, Aston Fields, were at the start of their break and had been invited to a friend's house.

The children went to explore the gardens but about five minutes later Daisy returned with her brother who was soaking wet.

When asked what had happened Daisy explained her brother had reached for a ball floating in the uncovered swimming pool and fallen in.

She said she knew he would drown and that she had to act quickly as there was no one else nearby. She knelt down, reached for George and pulled him to the side of the pool before pulling him out of the water.

Daisy's brother was soaking wet but suffered no ill effects due to her swift actions.

Mum Beverly said: "I feel she acted calmly and in a correct manner and I am very proud of her."

Headteacher Tecwyn Richards said Daisy is a model pupil, who is quiet and unassuming.

"We are very proud of her. She acted swiftly and appropriately and did what she needed to do to save her little brother's life."
