TALENTED youngsters at a Bromsgrove school gave a modern twist to one of Shakespeare's best-loved comedies.

Senior pupils at Bromsgrove Preparatory School, in Conway Road, recently staged 'Score', an adaptation of Much Ado About Nothing.

Audiences loved the lavish new musical, which told the story of an Italian football team arriving in Britain for pre-season training.

The show brimmed with humour, original songs and dance routines. Claudio the Brazilian superstar taught the English footballers how to Samba while Dogberry and the Swamphounds led a lively line dancing set.

The score was full of witty lyrics in a variety of modern styles, with both romantic ballads and football anthems.

There was even a wicked non-Shakespearean touch with the addition of Swish and Pecks, the home side's intellectually-challenged footballer and his pop star wife.

School spokeswoman Rachel Scannell said: "There was a whole host of male and female principles, together with a chorus of footballers, fans and cheerleaders, every cast member had a vital contribution to make."
