FAIRFIELD Villa recorded their first win of 2004 with a 2-0 victory over Midland Combination division one basement boys Loughborough.

Neil Gallagher's men did all the early pressing and a Richard Whitlock header on ten minutes brought the game to life.

Villa's defence looked more secure with the introduction of Steve Tranter, playing only his second game of the season because of work commitments, and they contained the visitors comfortably.

It took an hour for Villa to take the lead when Bradley Maund charged down a clearance from visiting goalkeeper Paul Sprinethorpe, the ball fell to Paul Matthews and he made no mistake from 10 yards.

Immediately the visitors had a chance to level but Villa goalkeeper Dave White pulled off a superb save.

A through ball from Wayne Davies in the final minute sent Martin Tranter clear and he chipped the advancing Sprinethorpe.
