RECENTLY I went into Birmingham city centre for the first time in a while to

see the new Bull Ring development and was mightily impressed by what I saw.

I feel our district council could learn a lot from the Second City.

The Selfridge's building, which I must admit I had my doubts about to begin with, does in fact look good next to the traditional St Martin's Church, providing the area with a nice 'the old and the new' feel.

The way Birmingham has developed its centre is something I feel Bromsgrove should be aspiring to combining, in the same way, the town's traditional atmosphere with a forward-thinking glimpse to an ambitious future.

I agree with most people that there should be a central focal point like a town centre square near that diabolical patch where Iceland is. This could probably incorporate a fountain or luminated water feature which I feel would enhance Bromsgrove immensely.

I would also like to see the shop fronts redeveloped so they look newer and a tad more in keeping with each other and the red telephone boxes re-introduced to maintain the town's traditional feel.

Red telephone boxes have so much more character than those monstrous silver ones we have at present and would be welcomed back with open arms.

So come on Bromsgrove, let's have a town centre that at least looks like it has something for everyone.

Tania Stinton,

Bromsgrove.
