AS a parent I am always concerned by the lack of funding to schools, so is Julie Kirkbride, our local MP, who admirably champions the cause of increasing and harmonising the level of funding to local schools.
So why does the Local Education Authority finance a scheme to send 10 of its staff (eight teachers and two teaching assistants) to Perth in Australia for two weeks to discover why male pupils there achieve better results than local male pupils?
I obviously do not know how much this is costing the LEA but surely this money would be far better spent on books, computers or even heaven forbid - a teaching post for a year!
Why would the Government consider increasing funding to local schools when money is clearly being wasted in such a ludicrous manner?
I feel sure the only outcome of this expensive trip will be a report gathering dust, never to be actioned, and 10 healthy suntans!
