Redditch United 2

Gresley Rovers 0

SEAN Flynn put pen to paper at the Valley as Advertiser Sport reported last week but the 35 year old played no part in United's victory over Gresley at the weekend.

However, Reds manager Rod Brown has vowed the former Kidderminster man will start the next match as they travel to Gloucester City on Saturday.

He said: "I decided not to play Flynn, I changed things at halftime but he will start on Saturday."

Brown described the Gresley victory as 'comfortable' even though the visitors had their chances in the first half.

Martin Myers was quick off the mark and eloquently chipped Gresley keeper Dale Belford as early as the third minute to settle any Redditch nerves.

But with time rolling on Gresley's confidence grew and the visitors missed a couple of good opportunities to equalise before Reds hitman Scott Voice hammered the ball home to double Reds' advantage.

Brown said: "It was comfortable. It was a game we were expected to win and to be honest I was expecting Gresley to put up more of a fight.

"I think a couple of people were expecting us to slip up and drop points against teams like Rugby and Gresley.

"I feel the win on Saturday has put us back on track and I'm hoping we can go on and put together a bit of a run until the end of the season."

If the Reds can extend their run to Gloucester on Saturday it would be a massive blow to another title contender.

Brown still thinks Gloucester have an outside chance of the title with their two games despite them lagging by 15 points.
