AMERICAN politics is the subject of two plays by internationally acclaimed playwright David Edgar to be shown at Birmingham Repertory Theatre next week.
The two plays that make up Continental Divide are related through theme and characters and can be seen in any order or on their own. The Birmingham-born playwright explores what has happened to the revolutionary fervour that took hold of both the Right and the Left in the 1960s and presents a fascinating and astute insight into modern campaigning seen from both sides of the political fence in contemporary America.
In Mothers Against, the story is set five weeks before the election and follows Republican candidate for Governor Sheldon Vine as he prepares for the big debate with his Democratic opponent.
Daughters Of The Revolution concerns former radical and retiring community college dean Michael Bern, who discovers that the political collective of which he was a prominent member in the 1960s had been infiltrated and betrayed to the FBI.
The plays run for a week, beginning on Saturday and ticket prices range from £10-£20.75.
