THE former vicar of Lower Broadheath who served most of his ministry life in the Diocese of Worcester has died at the age of 93.

The Rev Jack Stephens died in hospital in Worcester on Thursday, February 26, after a short period of illness.

His funeral will take place this Friday at Christ Church, Lower Broadheath where he served as a vicar for 30 years between 1951 and 1981.

The service will be led by Canon Dr Michael Nott who will be assisted by The Rev Gorran Chapman, a family friend.

Mr Stephens, who has two daughters and two grandchildren, was trained at Queen's University, Belfast and the London College of Divinity.

He was ordained in Worcester in 1937 to a curacy at St Mark's Stambermill, Stourbridge

He then served as a chaplain to the Forces during the Second World War.

Afterwards, he served at Wollaston, Stourbridge, in Worcester Diocese from 1947 to 1948 before becoming Rector of The Shelsleys between 1948 to 1951.

His most distinguished service was a 30-year incumbency of Christ Church, Lower Broadheath where he lived until his retirement.
