A boxing tournament has proved a knockout success by raising £2,150 for a Worcester hospice.

Members of Droitwich Spa Boxing Club competed in the tournament in aid of St Richard's Hospice.

The bouts were held at Worcester Rugby Club and organised by Droitwich Spa Rotary Club.

Marilyn Peachey, St Richard's director of fund-raising, was presented with the cheque.

"It's a wonderful amount of money to have raised for St Richard's and we are very grateful to everyone involved," she said.

"Every penny we receive makes a big difference to the hospice, ensuring we can provide the highest quality of care to our patients and their families."

St Richard's Hospice is based at Rose Hill, Worcester and is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year.

Since being formed in Droitwich in 1984, it has cared for more than 6,500 patients and last year cared for 800 patients and 300 bereaved families.

The hospice helps many patients live with their disease and plan for the future as well as caring for 60 per cent of people who die from cancer in South Worcestershire.

All its services are free and include a day hospice, home care team, bereavement counselling, and a 24-hour on-call advice line.
