GIRLS at a Worcester junior school are enjoying the benefits of an adventure trail in their own grounds.

The fitness trail at Springfield, Alice Ottley's junior school, was officially opened by previous headteacher Judith Layfield on Friday, February 13.

The playground includes bridges and climbing equipment to help the youngsters develop balance and imaginative play ideas not usually taught in the classroom.

"I feel that I know Springfield very well after a term here," said new headteacher Marion Lloyd.

"I was made very welcome and have been extremely impressed by the wide range of opportunities on offer to pupils, expanded by the wonderful fitness trail."

The playground was the "brainchild" of former head Mrs Layfield, who was delighted to be back at the school after retiring last summer, after 20 years in charge.
