PERMISSION to build a chalet bungalow at 80, Main Road, Kempsey, has been allowed on appeal.

After a site visit, a Malvern Hills planning committee refused the application, contrary to the recommendation of planning officers, on the grounds that it would spoil the character of the conservation area and affect neighbours' light and privacy.

The inspector said the bungalow would be substantially lower than most two-storey houses and would not be significantly overbearing on the neighbours' outlook.

The front windows would overlook the garden of number 19, but at a very oblique angle and substantial distance.

That side of the road was characterised by smaller dwellings in modest gardens and the new home would not appear unduly cramped or out of place.

However, in allowing the appeal the inspector removed permitted development rights for future extensions.
