AS a parent of a child attending Thornton House School in Worcester, I am very concerned about the proposed closure of its nursery unit.

What I do not understand is this - Thornton House has just received an excellent Ofsted Report and the Nursery Assessment Unit has had three excellent Ofsted inspections.

If Thornton House is doing so well, it should be encouraged to carry on its normal day-to-day functions. So why change it?

To move the nursery unit into "mainstream settings" will cost a considerable amount of money and this means it will waste taxpayers' money in an unnecessary way.

Thornton House NAU is highly valued by health professional and social workers. All the children in Thornton House at the moment seems to be very happy.

The parents are very proud of the ways the school is helping their children.

So why doesn't the LEA just leave the school alone?

I think it is impossible and inappropriate for Thornton House to become a "generic" special school.

The school building is too small to accommodate all special needs children adequately.

The school does not have the facilities some children will need, for example, bathroom facilities, wheelchair access and access to hydrotherapy on site.

I urge the LEA and County Hall to seriously look at this proposal again.
