IN reply to John Davies' letter (Evening News, Wednesday, February 11) my husband and I think he should again read the article on the proposed traffic lights at Newtown Crossroads.

It is not just Stephen Morgan from Newtown Garage who is against the traffic lights but also the residents.

Our home is directly on the crossroads - has he stopped to think for one moment how this would affect our lives and all the other homeowners, too?

Their lives will not just be affected by the increased level of noise day and night, but also by the increased levels of pollution from the queues of stationary vehicles. Would Mr Davies want his children subjected to that while they are playing in the garden?

It's all very well Mr Davies saying he drives regularly over the crossroads, but that is just for a few seconds of his time. We live here 365 days of the year.

It is not nonsense, as he calls it, about there being gridlock. We see how much traffic passes through the crossroads and, believe us, there will be very long queues.

Has he seen the plans for the traffic lights? We doubt that very much, so he wouldn't know about the other concerns we have regarding our health.

He said there were too many casualties at the location. There has been one fatality, which happened last year. Perhaps he should learn all the facts before he puts pen to paper next time.
