HISTORY was made when Stourport Hockey Club's U-15s boys became the first Worcestershire junior side to win a national final in the sport.

They defeated teams representing Beeston, Eastcote, Deeside and finally Havant in the final to take the Hockey Association National Plate last year.

It was the first time the team had entered the competition after gelling well together over the past few seasons.

They have been aided by extra coaching from Stourport's former international players.

Six of the players are in the last 16 of the National Cup for this season's U-15s and play Belper on February 22.

Many players have progressed to the various men's teams and the club hope some could eventually be first teamers.

Coach Peter Terry said: "We have a strong junior section and we hope to see a minimum of four lads going up to the first team in the National League."

Lesley Fox said: "The club would like to thank the parents for their help in driving the boys to games, supplying them with equipment and generally supporting them.

"Without their help and dedication, the club would not be where it is now," she added.
