WELL done Roy Burton for raising the issue of park-and-ride.

I also attended the St Peter's Parish public meeting in December. There was no formal presentation or opportunity for collective discussion.

No officials who had any authority were present. No one was able to tell us what the plans were for the ride part of park-and-ride, so how could anyone come to a totally reasoned conclusion?

Some £150,000 has been spent on this proposal with little effective and transparent public involvement.

How many of us knew about the "significant consultation programme (that was commissioned by the Worcestershire County Council)... to enable the community... to be involved in the site selection process"?

Tiny notices in the newspaper are not enough. This park-and-ride scheme should not go ahead.

1 Significant benefit to the motorist (user and non-user) is unlikely: bus lanes down the London or Newtown Roads? Let's be realistic.

2 Using the land would be against the city council's Local Plan and lead to infilling development in the rest of the St Peter the Great valley.

3 The view to the Malvern Hills would be ruined.

4 It is likely to require a hefty subsidy paid by the local taxpayer and at a time when we should be trying to keep local tax rises down.

The opinions of local people must be heard. So come on folks let's shout - the land belongs to the citizens of Worcester and not the planners.

DAVID A TIBBUTT,
