DESPITE enjoying the festive season a full field of golfers competed in both the Boxing Day Foursomes and the New Year's Day Stableford competitions at The Worcestershire Golf Club.

On Boxing Day only two pairs, Pete Taylor with Clive Amphlette and Wes Curtis with Steve Bradshaw, beat the par for the course. They both returned scores of 38 points, but Wes and Steve were declared the winners on the usual count-back system with Peter and Clive in second place.

Experienced golfers Stan Jones and Terry Lloyd were third returning a par score of 36 points.

In fourth place with 33 points was the pairing of Dave Farrell and Dave Harding. Veteran golfer Stan Rone with Tony Beale also returned a score of 33 points but lost out on the back nine score to finish fifth.

In the New Year's Day Stableford Competition players competed in groups of three with two scores to count on each hole.

No team could compete with Matt Pugh, Graham Hill and Barry Williams who ran out the clear winners with the very creditable score of 83 points. Roy Smith, Tony Beale and Roy Cale gained second with a score of 80. Dave Jones, John Williams and Fred Payne were third with a score of 78. Former club captain, Mel Stocker with former secretary, Roger Blackwell, and Kevin Field were fourth with 77.

In the recent Mixed Greensome Stableford Competition, the players were extremely keen to do well. Played on a glorious day, with excellent ground conditions and very little wind, the scoring was of a high order.

The winners however were John Daly and Brenda Jones who returned the excellent score of 40 points. Brenda did exceptionally well in that this was her first game since her recent back injury.

Two pairs returned scores of 39 points and caused the scorers much hard work. The ever improving pairing of Andy Greene and April Wilding were second and the experienced married couple of Derek and Daphne Phillips were third.

During the competition there were nine birdies only three of which by the prizewinners.
