HEREFORDSHIRE workers are trailing behind their national counterparts when it comes to wages.
Workers in Herefordshire earn an average salary of £19,667, which is £5,074 less than the national average and the biggest shortfall in the country, according to a new study produced for the GMB, Britain's General Union.
Average gross annual pay for full time workers in the West Midlands is £22,660 or £2,081 behind the national average gross annual pay of £24,741.
There is a £30,000 difference between the top and bottom of the league table. The City of London tops the average pay league for full time workers, with the average annual wage now £50,904. At the bottom, with an annual average wage of £18,491, is Scottish Borders area.
Twelve of the 14 areas surveyed in West Midlands are below the national average gross annual pay, with the exceptions being Solihull, which has the highest average earnings in the region of £26,073 a year, and Coventry, where average annual earnings are £25,817.
In Birmingham the annual average wage is £23,744, almost £1,000 below the national average.
