1803:The prisoners in our county gaol return thanks for £2 from a lady unknown and also for 80lbs of beef sent them by a gentleman. And the prisoners in our city gaol likewise send grateful thanks to the Lord Bishop of Worcester for one guinea.

1903: The Castle at Hanley Castle has been completely gutted by fire. The Castle is a comparatively old residence, built on the site of the ancient castle, of which hardly a trace remains. The Castle belongs to Sir Edmund Lechmere and has been rented by Mr E. Kent of Kent and Sons Ltd., wines and spirits merchants of Upton-on-Severn, though no one has resided in it for the past 12 months. The fire in the Castle was first spotted at 1.30am last Monday and, despite the valiant efforts of the Upton Fire Brigade, the building was totally destroyed by the flames. The cause of the blaze is unknown.

Henry Charles Walker, aged 42, of Netherton Lane, Worcester, met with a terrible and instantaneous death on Monday afternoon at Messrs Heenan and Froude's engineering works at Shrub Hill. His mangled body was found under a steam-driven travelling crane, running on tracks and engaged in shunting. Deceased had been directing the crane driver but must have fallen under the crane while it was in action.

1953: A descendant of the legendary Highlander Rob Roy has been married at Stoulton Church. The bride was Miss Anne Roy, daughter of Mr and Mrs Geoffrey Roy, natives of Scotland now living at Caldwell Lodge, Stoulton. The groom comes from the Caldicott family of Spetchley.

It has been agreed that two television sets should be provided, as an experiment, for the use of patients of Powick Mental Hospital. Dr W.D Steel, on behalf of the hospital's House Committee, said it appeared that TV sets had been introduced in other hospitals to the benefit of patients.
