THE first-ever European Indoor Rowing Championships were held at the Stade Pierre de Coubertin in Paris on Sunday.
At least 20 different countries were represented, with nearly 1800 athletes taking part.
Around 40 British competitors travelled to Paris, including the qualifiers from the recent British Championships in Birmingham, and the team returned with six gold medals, four silver and two bronze.
Hanley Swan's World champion Anna Bailey (Old Wrecks), rowing in Union Jack socks, put in a good solid time of 7:11:6 to win the Women's 50-59 race, just under half a minute ahead of the silver medallist, UK's Karon Philips, nearly one and a half minutes ahead of the bronze medallist and setting the new European Championship Record time in the process.
Anna's next event will probably be round four of the British Grand Prix at Cambridge Regional College on January 17.
Anna has already won two of the previous rounds at Newark and Portsmouth with further rounds to go at Manchester on February 8 and Nottingham on March 14.
