SAFETY measures to improve a Hanley Castle road are being undertaken by Worcestershire County Council.

The council's Highways Partnership is to apply an anti-skid surfacing to the B4209 between Hanley Castle and Hanley Swan, to cut down on the number of vehicles that come off the road there.

Mike Davis, Highways Partnership manager, said that most of the accidents that have happened on the road are not recorded as they have not involved injury, but he understands from residents that it is a problem.

Mr Davis said: "Under normal circumstances, something like this would not be addressed, but because of the local concern, we have decided to do something about it."

Mr Davis explained that it was not apparent why the road has proved so hazardous, but said that he hoped the new surface would improve it.

The Partnership will resurface the road shortly, when the weather conditions are suitable. Traffic lights will be in use while the work is going on.
