FOUR cars were damaged and part of a wall was demolished after an accident in West Malvern in the early hours of last Friday morning.

A white Rover was in collision with a Citroen AX parked on the side of West Malvern Road, driving it through a stone wall. The Rover went on to hit two other cars before coming to a halt.

The driver of the Rover left the scene and has not yet been traced by police. The current owner is not registered and there are no insurance records.

The Citroen belonged to Jenny Spicer of West Malvern Road; the other two cars and the garden wall were the property of neighbour John O'Connor.

Ms Spicer looked out of her window after hearing a bang at about 1.30am, to see her Citroen lodged in the wall.

Mr O'Connor, who also heard the crash, said: "The car must have been travelling very fast down the hill as the skid marks started about 20 metres up the road. I heard a large bang. I thought at first there was another earthquake."

Ms Spicer's brother Dave heard the driver attempting to re-start the Rover after the crash, but it was abandoned at the site.

"I'm not so much angry as relieved that nobody was hurt," said Ms Spicer. "If I had been in the car I could have been seriously injured but luckily it was at 1.30am and everyone had gone to bed."

The Rover was removed by police after the accident and Ms Spicer's car had to be taken to the scrapyard on Friday morning as it was too damaged to repair.

As she only has third party insurance and the culprits have not been found, she will have to meet the cost of a replacement herself.

Mr Connor's cars were not written off; he estimated that repairs to the cars and the wall would cost some £2,000.

The speed limit in this part of West Malvern Road is 30mph, but residents say that speeding drivers are a problem there. Back in May, Mr Spicer's car was hit and seriously damaged when it was parked on the roadside.

Anyone with information should contact police on 08457 444888. The car's registration was H186 NUH.
