ANCHOR Falcons continued their rich vein of form with an impressive win over second place Pillar of Salt in this Sunday Division Four encounter at Pitchcroft.

PILLAR OF SALT RESERVES 3, ANCHOR FALCONS 5

Despite having the edge for much of the game The Falcons had to battle hard against a resilient Salt side. From the early stages it was always a competitive match with plenty of effort and some neat play from both sides. The Falcons drew first blood through Russ Collins on his first start of the season. Rich Lambert made it two soon after as the Falcons appeared to be coasting.

However Salt got back into the game when Shane Oseman was unable to stop a rocket shot following a debatable free kick award 20 yards out. Back came the Falcons and Ben Ratcliffe was on hand to make it 3-1 before the break.

Salt came at The Falcons early in the second half and it was a combination of excellent defensive work from Mark Berry and inventive counter attacking by man of the match John Goode that kept The Falcons on top. They did however see a Salt corner converted after Oseman had let slip the cross and the ball was duly despatched into the net.

It was highly entertaining action as the game swung from goalmouth to goalmouth and the Falcons further enhanced their grip when Dave Jenkinson coolly brought down Lambert's cross and shot brilliantly into the far corner. At 4-2 there was still not time to relax as Salt again came back into it with a scrappy goal, now it was 4-3.

Anchor were not finished however and skipper Paul Park collected the ball on the edge of the box, sped past a static defence and crashed a left footed shot into the far corner.

An excellent game with plenty of good football on show from both sides, and it was The Falcons who came away with the three points as they continue to catch the front runners in this league.

This Sunday Anchor travel to Little Perdiswell to play The Vine.
