Sergei Prokofiev Stage Works & Film Scores.

Boxed 50th Anniversary edition.

THIS offering is huge. It's a six CD set of the stage works and film scores written by Sergei Prokofiev and I chose to review it because there are some Christmas favourites among the many.

Peter and the Wolf and Cinderella are among the best of the festive offerings if you are going to celebrate the season by going to the ballet or a concert.

Cinderella certainly set my youngest daughter on the road to ballet lessons that lasted much longer than I anticipated.

The benefit, apart from the music is that she stands up straight! And, come to think of it, we had more than one lupine nightmare she listened to Peter and the Wolf for the first time.

Not so her infant daughter, who laps it up as she toddles around the room.

These recordings have the narrative spoken clearly by Patrick Stewart of Star Trek fame and are not only in English. There are a German, French and Spanish versions.

This wide-ranging collection features other Prokofiev favourites. Romeo and Juliet, The Steel Step among a programme of ballets, cantata, opera and film score.

Although some of the music in this collection is for the grown-ups, if you have children who like music other than S Club Juniors, I defy them not to enjoy at least the two I have mentioned.
