St Paul's Church, Knightsbridge, London, SW, was crowded on Saturday afternoon with a distinguished company to witness the marriage of the Hon Robert Lygon, Grenadier Guards and the ADC to the Governor of Madras (Lord Ampthill), half-brother of the Earl Beauchamp, of Madresfield Court, and Miss Cecil Arbuthnot, only child of Sir George Arbuthnot. Malvern News, October 17, 1903.

We have now passed the middle of October and on many farms the corn is still standing in sheafs and has become quite black owing to the continued rains during the summer and autumn months. Ledbury Free Press, October 20, 1903.

A white satin pin cushion worked by Queen Mary has been given to the Girls' College for the fete in aid of Malvern Priory tomorrow. It is the gift of a parent of one of the girls. The Queen Mother has sent a tea service for six people in white and pale green paragon china. Malvern Gazette, October 16, 1953.

During a discussion of the local housing problem at Tuesday's meeting of Ledbury Rural Council, Mr Ewart Ballard expressed the view that there should be a means test for applicants for council houses. Mr Ballard said it was high time they decided that they were not prepared to build houses for everybody. People could now build for themselves. Ledbury Reporter, October 23, 1953.

In a bold effort to ease traffic congestion at their annual three-day show, the Three Counties Agricultural Society has decided to scrap all car parking charges. But though showgoers will get free vehicle parking and quicker access to the site, they will have to pay more for admission. The show society has decided to increase entrance charges by 50p for adults and 20p for children. Malvern Gazette, October 19, 1978.

Anyone still in doubt about the dangers of the turning off the Gloucester Road, Ledbury, leading to the new John Masefield High School, should have a look at the display now mounted in the former sweet shop, next to the Feathers Hotel. A series of photos on loan to Ledbury and District Society from Mr Doran of Gloucester House shows graphically the hazards awaiting both lorry drivers and school coaches.
