MALVERN 2, DROITWICH 3
DESPITE a routine demolition job at number one by Nigel Long and a fine victory at two by Rob Davies, the Malvern Squash Club's first team lost their opening home league match of the season.
Promoted from the second team both Mark Read and Guy Rutter had tough matches, although Mark managed to drag one game back and Guy was within a whisker of winning the first game before losing 3-0.
At number two Rob Davies played impressively to grind John Hailes into submission and apart from the third game, he was always in control of the rallies. The final game was a formality.
Results: Nigel Long bt Phil Dyke 9-3, 9-2, 9-1; Rob Davies bt John Hailes 9-6, 9-6, 0-9, 9-2; George Leeds lost to Warren Beard 3-9, 2-9, 9-6, 9-4, 0-9; Guy Rutter lost to Justin Moore 8-10, 2-9, 0-9; Mark Read lost to Dave Kendall 4-9, 9-4, 1-9, 3-9.
