TOMMY Hayes has won back the prized fly-half spot for Worcester's clash with Exeter Chiefs.

The summer signing displaces James Brown at number 10 for the Powergen Cup fourth round clash at Sixways (3pm).

Hayes began the season in stunning style but had been moved to centre to accommodate James Brown at stand off.

With both in fine form, Worcester's director of rugby John Brain admitted that it was time to give Hayes another chance as the main man.

The former Cook Islander will, however, face a late fitness test like a number of other players.

"Tommy has been playing at centre because we know he can do a good job for us there," said Brain.

"However, we feel he deserves his chance in his favoured role."

Chris Garrard returns to the side on the wing with Wes Davies starting in his favoured centre position. Gary Trueman is rested after some shin problems and Duncan Murray comes into the inside centre position.

In the pack, Matt Evans starts his first game at openside with Gavin Pfister still troubled by his shoulder.

Neil Lyman is named in the side at tight-head prop but will undergo a fitness test today. If Lyman is ruled out, Lee Fortey will continue at three with Tony Windo again included in the front row.

"Tony has a bit of a niggle and we would like to rest him," added Brain.

"We wanted Lee to start because he deserves it after last week's performance, but if Neil doesn't make it then we will bring Tony into the side and Lee will move to tighthead."

Richard Bates is also facing a fitness test to see whether he can take his place on the bench for a clash Brain is relishing.

"It will be a physical game," he said. "We have developed the physicality in our game and, in that respect, it's a test for us.

"We've got to want to win the game more than Exeter and that was a criticism of the team last season when they beat us at Sixways to knock us out of the Powergen Shield. The players have a chance to put that right tomorrow."
