VOLUNTEER wardens have shifted an estimated four tonnes of litter from Malvern streets over the past year.
Environmental charity, the Duck-worth Worcestershire Trust, has published its annual report in which it pays tribute to the work of volunteers.
A team of 30 litter wardens has been recruited, following the launch of the scheme by the trust two years ago.
Each volunteer who registers receives a free litter picker, gloves, bags and a badge, in return for monitoring and clearing litter from a green space, park or street near their home. Regular volunteer meetings are also held.
Project manager Mark Driscoll said: "The scheme encourages people to take action to make a real difference to the improvement of the environment within their own local communities.
"Litter is a real problem which many people feel passionate about. The scheme has been a tremendous success and it shows that by working together we can make a real difference."
