The Scarlet Ark in Malvern is expanding its premises to coincide with its first anniversary of trading on Tuesday.

The family-run business, which comprises a coffee shop, bistro, gift shop and gallery, is expanding into adjoining premises in Church Street, previously occupied by Milborough's jewellers.

Stock from the gift shop, currently above the cafe, will move into the new premises and a new seating area will be created upstairs.

Hilary Rochford-Dyer and her three daughters, Becky, Emily and Lucy, run the business and have enjoyed a year of successes.

Becky said: "We've had a great year. Trade has been excellent, especially through the summer. We're really looking forward to expanding. Hopefully, it'll make people aware we're more than just a cafe."

Mrs Rochford-Dyer, whose distinctive artwork is displayed in the cafe, recently exhibited at the Autumn Fair at the NEC in Birmingham and has had artwork accepted by retailers Athena.

Scarlet Ark also received a Platinum Award in the arts section of the Malvern Hills District Council business awards.

To celebrate the first anniversary, staff are entering customers, spending £25 or over, into a prize draw to win one of Mrs Rochford-Dyer's paintings, valued at £225. The competition runs from October 21 and the draw will take place on Christmas Eve.
