FORMER students from Malvern Girls' College have won national recognition for their writing.
Bryony Tomlinson was a runner-up in the Daily Telegraph/BASF Science Writer Awards.
Her essay 'Which came first, belief or brain?' discussed whether the structure of the brain made people destined to believe in God.
Carol Evans, head of biology at the college, said: "The competition was a perfect opportunity for Bryony to exercise her considerable natural curiosity and apply her ideas and we are delighted for her and her success."
Bryony left the school this summer after achieving three grade As in biology, chemistry and physics and is currently taking a gap year.
Another student, Rachel Bryant Davies, who left this summer to study classics at Newnham College, Cambridge, has had an article published in Omnibus, a classical magazine, whose contributors are usually classics lecturers.
Her article linked Greek tragedy to the works of Nigerian author Wole Soyinka.
