THE Soccer Site Malvern Football League was taken over by cup fever last weekend when the first round of the Senior Cup was played.

Home advantage counted for little as the stronger visiting teams generally came out on top.

Bishop's Frome took their league form with them to Bell Inn 98 and raced into a 3-0 lead in the first half. Jason Westmacott was on the end of two of them. The Bell proved to be a tougher proposition in the second period and gave away only one more goal. Again, it was Westmacott who was on target to complete his hat-trick.

Meanwhile the Bell pulled two goals back through Ian Hopkins and Chris Grubb to make the home side wish they had got themselves into gear earlier in the game.

On the same side of the hill, Fromes Hill's season continued to stutter. Entertaining Morgan Aero 8, they found themselves two goals down at half time after goals from Jordan Miller and Mike Dean. Morgan were contained during the second period until Marcus Eden scored a third after Fromes Hill's keeper had failed to hold a free kick.

Cross Keys carried on their winning form by beating the gallant Perowne Park Rangers 5-0. Keys had scored their goals by the early part of the second half and clearly began to take things easy. This was when Rangers got within striking distance with a couple of goals, including two penalties. Even so, Keys had another gear in hand if it had been needed and the result was never really in doubt. They were indebted to Jamie Thomas and Ollie Endacott who both scored twice, as well as Simon Barnett, for their goals.

Madresfield went to Dynamo Ledbury and the game was all over after just five minutes. That was when Tyrone Fisher put the ball into the net for Madresfield following a defensive mix up. Try as they might, for the rest of the match neither team could score again and Madresfield's lone goal was enough to take them through.

Kempsey United A made sure that one team would win at home, but even they had to fight hard. They scored twice against Cavalry Arms through Ryan Lee and Chris Freeman. That might have been the signal for more goals. However, Cavalry are nothing if not battlers and they made Kempsey's job difficult when Andy Jones scored from the penalty spot to reduce the arrears. Kempsey managed to hang on to their slender lead until the end.

AC30 must have thought they were well on the way to the second round at half time. They led AFC Grosvenor by 2-0 and seemed to be cruising home.

Then they were hit by a second half avalanche. This saw Grosvenor hit five goals and left the home side regretting the many missed first half opportunities.

Talbot Head took on the plucky outfit from Great Malvern Hotel. The game was switched to Upton and this only helped Talbot pile on the pressure. They ended winners by 9-0 thanks to a hat-trick from Matt Cook and further goals from Adam Heath (two), Dave Martin, James Rimell, Richard Birch and Richard Foley.

Oak All Stars were comfortable winners 13-1 against Vauxhall.

- Clubs are reminded that the next league meeting will be on Monday (October 20) at 7.30pm and all clubs must be represented.
