A FILM of Dymock, described as a personal, nostalgic and historical tour of the village, will be shown at the village hall on October 24.

Melvin Pratt lived in Dymock from childhood until 1956. He came back last August to make a film for his own memories and the project snowballed, first into a 15-minute film and then into a 40-minute documentary.

Mr Pratt, who is paralysed from the waist down due to an accident when in the Navy, filmed, edited and narrated the documentary himself.

Dymock resident Horace Dudfield, who provided many of the old pictures Mr Pratt used in the film, said: "When he made the 15-minute video everyone who saw it said 'Can we have a copy?', so he lengthened it to 40 minutes.

"It's excellent. He's done an exceptionally good job and we do want to keep memories alive here."

Videos and DVDs of the film will be sold after it is shown and the proceeds will go to village hall funds.

Mr Dudfield and his wife Daisy have many old photographs of Dymock and pre-war posters of village events that will be on display on the night.

They also plan to take pictures of all the houses in the village and record the occupants, present and past so they are never forgotten.

The film will be shown at 7.30pm on October 24, and anyone interested in seeing it is welcome to attend.
