THE art of the East can be seen when a new exhibition opens this weekend.

East Meets West - The Orient Expressed will be at the Foal Yard Gallery, Bransford, from tomorrow (Saturday) to Saturday, November 22.

A range of exhibits, including brush painting, calligraphy, ceramics and furniture will be on display.

Anna Brook, showroom co-ordinator, said the exhibition was a contrast between traditional Eastern art and more contemporary pieces.

"Eastern Art is based on balance, harmony and symmetry and the artists are taking these ideas and doing something modern which is why the exhibition is called East Meets West," she said.

Exhibiting alongside artists and designers from across the globe are some contemporary British artists, including Herefordshire potter Bridget Drakeford, who is inspired by the orient when making elegant teapots and vessels, and Jeremy Davies, whose furniture echoes the simplicity and clean lines of oriental design.

Opening times for the exhibition are Monday to Saturday 9pm to 5pm. For further information, contact the gallery on 01886 833337.
