POWICK Church's harvest festival was well attended last Sunday including members of the Cubs and Brownies and their leaders. The church was seasonally decorated with fruits, foliage and flowers with a special display in the form of a cross incorporating bread, apples, seed heads, flowers etc. Special thanks to June Goddard, Jenny Hill and friends for the time spent decorating the church. At the beginning of the service, two chairs for use by the clergy were dedicated. They had been donated by Vivienne MacKenzie in memory of her late husband Jack. The Reverend David Nichol led the service and based his talk on taking care of one's neighbour. The gifts of produce and goods were divided between MHHYAT Foyer in Malvern and St Paul's Hostel in Worcester. The bible story was read by Jackie Maple and prayers led by Jo Walker, with organ played by Sally Lindsey. The harvest decorations remained in the church in readiness for Powick School's harvest celebrations.
Sixteen members of 1st Powick Brownies and four adults visited Cadbury's World in Bourneville, joining Brownies and Guide from St John's Worcester. The history of chocolate making was illustrated with television screens, shows and a ride. A picnic lunch was enjoyed in the play area with time to visit the shops to buy chocolate. Whilst there, four Guides from 4th Worcester and 9th Worcester Guide companies took their promises including Catherine Leeming and Phoebe Gumbly who live in Powick. Ann Leeming also received her Guider's Warrant after having completed the Adult Leader's Certificate.
Don't forget the autumn fair in aid of the Worcestershire Animal Rescue Centre being held this Sunday in Powick Parish Hall from 10am till noon.
