SATURDAY, October 18, is St Luke's Day. What better day for a coffee morning in aid of the British Heart Foundation? Everyone is welcome at Elm Grove, Pool Hill, for Eric and Anne's coffee morning. There will be a bring-and-buy stall and a raffle. The book stall will provide some good entertainment for the dark winter nights ahead. The time is 10.30am-noon and it is always a good event supporting a very good cause.

Advance notice is give of the spring show organised by Castle Tump Women's Institute. It is on Saturday, February 28, 2004, and will be held in Pauntley Memorial Hall in Brand Green. Admission is 50p for adults and children are free. Doors will open at 2.30pm with the prize giving at 4pm. All classes are open to the general public. In the afternoon there will be a bric-a-brac stall, raffle and refreshments. Entries must be made on or before Tuesday, February 24, 2004. Forms are available from Mrs Nancy Bennion on (01531) 890297. Section E is for pre-school children - a picture of a butterfly - and for primary school children - four jam tarts. There are lots of sections for adults. One item is a home-made textile or yarn item, for example sewing, embroidery, weaving, knitting etc - something to be made during the long winter evenings perhaps? For bright days how about photography? Three interesting features here - Something Red, A Child or Children at Play or A Reflection on Water. Section B is flower arranging while Section A has six gardening-related items so plenty of scope there. Section C is cooking and preserves. Make a note of the date now, there is something for everyone.
