THE first motorised bus service to serve Kempsey has been caught on camera in one of the illustrations for next year's village calendar.

To be sold in aid of Kempsey Cricket Club, the calendar features seven sepia photographs of the village from the collection of Marjorie Harris, of Callow End.

The picture chosen for the cover shows Worcester Road, devoid of traffic apart from two boys with bicycles and three women standing in the road outside The Crown.

The motor omnibus appears on the page for September and October and is thought to be the one run by Worcester Electric Traction Company from 1913.

Other pictures include the old entrance to Bannut Hill from Worcester Road, a close-up of the Old School House, opposite The Talbot, a view of Church Street and a snow-covered Parish Hall.

The calendar is available, price £4.25, from David Harrison, 8 Brookend Lane, Kempsey, phone 01905 828107.
