A MAN hit his girlfriend in the face while she was holding their eight-month old son after she made "uncomplimentary remarks" about his sexual prowess, a court heard.

Twenty-one-year-old Anthony Day smashed Kerry Richards' mobile phone and head-butted her when she tried to call the police.

Day, of Hunters End, Droitwich, appeared before Worcester Magistrates Court yesterday, where he admitted two counts of assault and charges of criminal damage and failing to surrender to bail.

Prosecuting, Peter Parson said Day, who suffers from attention deficit hyperactive (ADHD) disorder, was seeing Miss Richards for six years but their relationship had gone downhill after she became pregnant, and on Saturday, May 24, they began arguing.

"On this particular occasion he came fuming into the house," he said.

"She had the child in her arms and she describes him as going ballistic, hitting her in the face and grabbing her around the throat."

Smashed

Mr Parson said Miss Richards tried to call the police on her mobile phone but he smashed it and head-butted her.

Day assaulted Miss Richards again on Monday, July 7, slapping her across the face and head-butting her to the ground.

Defending, Judith Kenney said Day had a drink problem and was provoked on the first occasion by Miss Richards making uncomplimentary remarks about his sexual prowess.

She said on the second occasion he returned in a drunken state and argued with her about whether he should take their child to the fair or the dog for a walk.

"It's quite clear that this is a man who has had a drink problem since the age of 12 and much of it was because he was not performing well at school," she said.

"He felt he was an underachiever at school whereas really he had problems with ADH disorder that weren't addressed."

The case was adjourned until Wednesday, November 12, for pre-sentence reports considering all options.
