MARTIN Westcott has performed a U-turn and rejoined Chaddesley Corbett as first-team manager.

Westcott resigned two weeks ago but was persuaded to change his mind by the players.

He said: "I have had several phone calls from the players, urging me to re-consider. They feel that we have an excellent squad here and that we can build on last season's success."

Caretaker player-manager Ian Vogel admitted: "I am delighted that Martin has returned. I just want to concentrate on playing and only offered to help the club out until a permanent appointment was made.

"However, I must be the most successful manager in Chaddesley's history as we were unbeaten and didn't concede a goal in my time in charge!"

Chaddesley drew 0-0 at Ludlow Town Reserves on Wednesday in West Midlands League Division One South.

Skipper and man-of-the-match Brian Burton said: "We had to withstand a lot of pressure, especially in the first half. But I am really proud of all of my players.

"They stood up and were counted. They took a lot of knocks but were outstanding to a man. I thought that Ian Harvey in goal was magnificent."

Burton, Stuart Jordan and Gavin Knight helped the impressive Harvey out by being excellent in defence.

Lee Williams, Neil Lucas and Vogel also helped Chaddesley withstand a lot of pressure.

They had the better of the second half with Matt Baynton increasingly influential and Richard Burton a constant threat on the left wing.

Chris Bow nearly sealed all three points with five minutes left but his shot whistled inches wide from the edge of the box.

Chaddesley players are asked to meet at Tenbury's ground for 1.45pm on Saturday.
