Outraged Bidford parents are taking it upon themselves to renovate the school's 'eyesore' flowerbed.

After the £2 million school was completed a year ago along with the new library and parish council rooms, parents say the garden still resembles 'a derelict building site'.

Warwickshire County Council told the school the contractor paid to finish the job was in liquidation, meaning it could take months before a new contractor is found and work is started.

So parent Vicky Roads took matters into her own hands and persuaded her bosses to donate 300 plants to the school in order to help improve matters.

On Sunday, armed with a rotovator, spades and forks, an army of parents and children descended on the Bramley Way school and set about digging and weeding the front.

But because the area is so large and the ground is so dry, the green group barely scratched the surface.

Parent Fran Kitteridge said: "Where there should be grass, trees, shrubs and flowers, there is stone, soil and weed.

"Come on Warwickshire County Council, after building such a wonderful new school 'don't spoil the ship for a hapeth of tar'.

"There's an OFSTED inspection starting on November 4 and the school's first impressions would be better suited if the front flowerbeds were completed by then."
