AN 'eyesore' at the entrance to Alcester could be in line for a redevelopment after about a decade.

Oversley Green Residents Association has had informal talks with an architect who is working with the landowner of Bridge End Service Station, on Stratford Road, to create office buildings.

The architect believes the buildings will be sympathetic to the area.

A handful of plans for houses have already bitten the dust in 2001 and 2002 because Stratford's planning councillors set aside the land for commercial use only - even though the site is in green belt.

Residents association chairman Mark Hind said: "The plans we've seen are office accommodation with living space above.

"The site is just an eyesore - we're trying to promote Alcester at the moment with all the regeneration work from Advantage Alcester and all the good work Alcester in Bloom have put in over the years."

Mr Hind added: "We found Stratford Council's decision not to allow residential buildings on the site absolutely ridiculous.

"But with the Local Plan we'll have an opportunity to say our piece.

"We've raised an objection saying the land should be included as residential rather than commercial.

"There has been previous commercial land which has been converted into residential like the old Texaco garage in Studley."

The plans should be going to the Arden Area planning committee soon.
