WHAT is K Grant going on about? (Letters, October 1).

Obviously, much knowledge about Dial-a-Ride is not known and the brilliant service it gives those of us who use it.

Anyone who has consideration for other people would know the service is not for those who are quite capable of using bus services or their own cars.

The service is for people like myself, who are not fortunate enough to get to a bus stop or drive through no fault of their own.

What I would do without this service, I do not know.

Surely it is not too hard for someone to decide roughly how long their need is going to be between their outward and return journeys. Could not a little extra time be booked just in case, how hard is this?

The 48-hour prior booking is needed so a roster can be worked out for pick-ups. The booking for outward and return journeys are made at the same time.

This service could not be provided for someone who requires a "sudden need" to visit the supermarket, as any rational person can see.

My sincere thanks goes to all at Dial-a-Ride and Shopmobility for the great service they give to me and I am sure to many more.

I do not know what I would do without you. Again thank you.

l I FEEL I must write and defend Dial-a-Ride.

From the bookers, drivers and Shopmobility staff, they are a great crew.

I would not be able to go out if it was not for them.

I can't walk far and they come right to my door. The bus stop is far away and I can't get there.

OK, the cost is £1.10 each way - but a taxi is £4-£4.50 each way. I rest my case.

As for booking in advance, it is a drawback but they have to work out a plan.

I have found nothing is too much trouble for them. So I give them my many thanks.
