DEAR EDITOR -- I strongly agree with the comments of Mr David Parker in the Advertiser/Messenger (September 24) regarding the waste of council tax money spent on the traffic island near St John's Nursing Home.
Perhaps the council official responsible will reveal the cost to us council tax payers? I am certain that the majority of residents would agree that the money would have been better spent filling in potholes as suggested by Mr Parker.
I suggest one other saving that could be made, by dispensing with the service of dog wardens. I see no benefit to be gained by employing them. There are as much dog faeces as ever; there have been no prosecutions; and I often see dogs running loose in the precinct and on playing fields including Sanders Park.
I see dogs in the Market Hall despite the notices, which some dog owners can't read.
Recently, a dog owner had allowed his dog to foul the pavement and walked away. I foolishly approached the owner and informed him that he had committed an offence. He informed me that he was going home to get some disinfectant - and no, it was not April 1!
