WITH the weather still very changeable, fish patterns vary accordingly and this shows in this week's results.

Starting off is Tuesday's Woodland Views affordable open held on Deans pool. Paul Foster (Blackheath) led the way with a 76-7-0 catch taken with pole fished chopped worms with casters from peg one. Second placed Mike Williams (Phoenix Shrewsbury) had 58-10-0; third, Sid Webb (Woodlands), 47-12-0.

The Northfield Starlets Veteran's event was fished on Moorlands Farms Island pool where John Allington (Hereford) poled corn at peg 12 to take a 29-5-0 catch. Lady angler Maureen Cluley (Wales) was second with 25-4-0 and her husband Mick took third with 18-12-0.

Also at Moorlands Farm there were 75 club match winners, who had competed on the venue over the last 12 months, taking part in this year's club angler final. The 2003 winner was Mitch Huskirsson (Mansfield) who pole fished corn at Silver pool peg 46 for 77-9-0. Second was Dave Sewell (Mansfield) with 62-7-0 while third went to Paul Ainsworth's (Mid City) 54-10-0.

On Wednesday, the Moorlands Farm Meadow pool open produced a very close result headed by John Cooper (Moorlands). He pole fished corn for 58-0-0 from peg 44; second, Dave Highfield (Strike Angling) 57-2-0; third, Bob Jones (A&D Lock), 56-12-0.

Astwood Fisheries' Buddleia pool open went to Pete Bailey (Droitwich Angling Centre) who feedered maggots to the island from peg 83 for a mixed 43-10-0 catch. Rob Francis (Spa MG) took 33-2-0 or second with third going to John Halfpenny's (Astwood) 15-6-0.

Thursday saw Telfish AC at Furnace Mill's Mucky Meadow pool for its Fur and Feather contest. Finding four Carp in the last hour for victory was Graham Upton who pole fished meat at peg 48 for 22-11-0. Second was John Beech with 20-9-0; third, Dick Dark's 17-5-0.

The KH Veterans fished their latest encounter on Woodland View's Barley and Hay pools and it was Mick Scott (Bewdley) who took top honours by short pole fishing worm and casters at Hay peg three for 72-4-0. Mick Cluley (Wales) was runner-up with 55-14-0; third, John Osman (Northfield), 40-14-0.

On Saturday the Woodland View's Deans pool open saw a tight finish with Sean McCarthy (Pill Angling) edging the verdict with a ton-up catch of 105-10-0 taken with poled chopped worms and casters from peg 53. Paul Sibley (Shimano Portway) followed with 101-0-0 and third, Mick Jackson (Peg one Woodlands), taking 85-12-0.

The Redditch Federation Avon Championships was fished between Luddington and Bidford. This year's champion is Bidford AC member Ray Nosworthy who drew on his own club's waters at peg 39 on Bidford Rec. He waggler and feeder fished maggots for 14-14-0 of Perch and Roach; second placed Tony Avery (Alcester Sports and Tackle) was also on Bidford Recs peg 51 and had 11-10-0 of Roach with third going to Steve Williams' (Shakespeare) 9-5-0.

At Moorlands Farm, round two of the winter league produced some very good weights with top individual place going to Chris Hill (Tipton VDE) who pole fished corn at Meadow pool peg 52 for 134-6-0. Tony Parker (Lifestyle) was on opposite peg 21 where he took the runners-up spot with 122-5-0; third, Neville Groves (Top 4s), 109-15-0. Top 4s were the winning team with 12 points, DGL 14, Strike Angling 15. Overall DGL and Top 4s are joint league leaders on four points each.

Sunday's Moorlands Farm open produced even better catches and it was Steve Harris (Strike Mosella) who showed the way by pole fishing corn at Bank pool peg 21 for 137-10-0. Runner-up Giles Cochrane (Pill Angling) had 109-10-0 from Meadow peg 30 with third belonging to Lee Richards' (Lifestyle) 107-7-0.

The 100 AC held its annual contest and knockout final on the Civil Service stretch of the Grand Union Canal at Knowle. In first place was yours truly Tony Brunn who was staked at peg one at the turnaround bridge and pole fished chopped worm with casters over groundbait, laced with joker, to take a mixed catch of 5-14-0. Sixteen-year old Gary Tremlett was second with 2-8-0; third, Stuart Cutler with 1-14-0. Martin Tremlett was the knockout cup winner.

Astwood Fisheries' Smokey Joes pool open was headed by Max Trower (Astwood) with a mixed 37-14-0 catch taken with pole and maggots from peg 39. Second was John Priest's (Astwood) 23-8-0; third, Trevor Hodges (Cobra), taking 21-7-0.

A close result was recorded at Woodland View's High pool open by winner Alan Jones (DGL) who had 54-14-0 from peg 18. Runner-up Steve Mortlock (Peg one Woodlands) with 51-5-0; third, Paul Williams (Smithies Mosella), 45-5-0.

The Birmingham Civil Service held their annual contest on the Elmdon Main pool where Eric Robathan pole fished worms from peg six to give him a weight of 43-11-0 with second going to Steve Lile's 43-4-0. Third was Clive Hawthorne with 40-12-0.
