DROITWICH Spa High School's Under 16 girls team have shown that they are just as hungry for success as their male counterparts.

After winning the Worcestershire sevens tournament at Droitwich, the girls went on to further success at the West Midlands event.

Twelve teams gathered in Droitwich to battle it for the title of the best team in the region. Droitwich Spa High School, under the captaincy of Jenny Baines, were victorious.

The competition was organised in the manner of many international competitions, with the 12 teams being in arranged into groups, the winners of which progressed through to the knockout stages. After winning their group and semi-final, Droitwich met local rivals Bishop Perowne in the final and sealed their victory to take the trophy and individual medals.

Baines, along with four others in the team, also play for Droitwich Rugby Club, training on Tuesdays and playing matches on Saturdays.

n North Midlands 18-Group Clubs were beaten 32-0 by Cheshire at Moore RFC near Warrington.

The game was North Midlands' only warm-up match before their opening game in the Midlands Championship against Warwickshire at Broadstreet on Sunday, October 26.

Despite the margin of defeat North Midlands put up spirited resistance against a well organised Cheshire side and trailed only 5-0 at half time.

It was only when the squad was rotated in the second half that Cheshire pulled clear with most of the scoring coming in the final quarter.

Scrum-half Michael Tibbetts (Moseley) took his chance to impress the North Midlands selectors along with number eight Lee Madelin (Dudley Kingswinford) and loosehead prop Luke Homer (Worcester).
