STAFF and pupils at The Alice Ottley School in Worcester were transported back 120 years to 1883, the year in which the school was founded.
They spent all day on Friday in Victorian costume, and took notes from lessons on slates.
In the senior school, the head of music took a lesson as Sir Edward Elgar, who taught at the school, and there was a "drill".
Rather than the usual canteen-style lunch, the girls sat down formally to tuck into their roast chicken and jam sponge with custard. There was also a display of artefacts dating back to 1883 for the girls to see.
Miss Alice Ottley, the first headmistress of the school, was a considerable figure in the community. Shops in Worcester shut as a mark of respect on the day of her funeral.
